King of Cornhole V

I got to experience the good times to be had at the King of Cornhole V held at the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel in Elizabeth, IN. This was a tourney to be seen, and it will be, because as a bonus to the upcoming documentary DVD, there will be a short piece depicting the life of a tournament. It was a grueling 3 days for me as I shot the players, fans, and organizers as they prepared, played and eventually partied.

Great times to be had and I am glad I got to meet some good people and reconnect with others I haven't seen in months or years. Thanks to the staff at the Horseshoe for being accomodating and cordial.

Eventually the ACO, the organization behind the event, will post some of the matches online, so be sure to check them out and leave a comment.

Sometimes you got to revisit

I have been revisiting the history of the game and thought I'd post with the hope that others may have some valuable info. The earliest verifyible evidence I have seen of people playing the game is from North Side Chicago in the 70s. I have heard first hand accounts of the game in Chicago in the 50s.

So where is the Cincinnati connection? When did the game progress down there? Anybody with some leads please email me at brotherhoodofbags@gmail.com. We got to get this straightened out once and for all.

Roads in Ohio can be deceiving

I am finally rested after a long and winding road trip throughout Ohio to shoot some pickups. It was a fun time and I would like to thank my friend Stephanie for giving me a place to crash and listening to me whine about crazy Cincy roads. Some words of caution for anyone headed to that area, buy a Garmin. Never thought I'd need one but that blacktop is serious yo! If it looks like it should take and hour on the map give yourself two hours, and there are no highways around Cincinatti, only on ramps and off ramps. Be prepared.

Much good came about this weekend though. Bought some tailgate boards and some bags at The Hole in Milford, the first retail Cornhole/Bags store in the world and got to hang out with Matt Guy and the Guy fam to see where it all began and where Matt practices occasionally in the colder months. All the die-hard baggers out there know that this was neat to shoot the reigning King of Cornhole practice with his dad and sons in the beautiful Kentucky countryside.

Also got a chance to talk with Jack Williams and Rick Mays from the World Championship of Cornhole out in Chillicothe, Ohio. Talking about the future of the game and ideas we all have can only get baggers around the country excited. Two good guys that are doing good for the sport of cornhole. Ate a good burger, drank some Gumballheads with Jack, won the adoration of two cute girls (at least 8 year old girls think I'm cool) and got some great footage. Now only if I can get them to change it to the World Championship of Bags....
photos coming soon.....

American Cornhole Examiner, sounds like a good gig

It's been a few weeks since this article ran but I want to thank Scott at the American Cornhole Examiner for helping out the cause. Visit his site and read not only the article about yours truly, but also some profiles of the best players in the country.

Making friends through bags

Its been a few days since, but had a great time with a family I just met, all in the name of the game. Thanks to Jackie and George who let me hang with them, gathered a dozen family members, let me shoot them playing, and fed me!! It's times like these when you think this work is all worthwhile.

So the production finally made its way up to Milwaukee thanks to a nudge from Scott Melby of Indy Custom Cornhole who needed a partner for recreational doubles at the ACO Brew City Bags Bash. Despite both of us being a little rusty (I've barely tossed in the last 6 months) we did quite well, racking up 4th out of 30+ teams. As you see from the photo, I had to drink MGD 64 the whole time to keep my athleticsm on high and the calories on low (I was not paid to say that by the way). Had a great time at this ACO event and got 50 more signatures for the petition.
